Special kitties with special needs in need of a very special home.

FPAC is currently caring for some kitties who have tested positive for the feline leukemia virus. Under normal circumstances, these very special kitties would be euthanized. However, we're desperately trying to find homes to avoid this outcome.

Two ten-week-old kittens out of a litter of five have tested "strong positive" for feline leukemia. These two adorable, long-haired kittens would fit perfectly into a home with no other cats or with a cat who is feline leukemia positive. The three other kittens must be retested in two months, so will remain at the shelter until that time. We're keeping our fingers crossed that, after two months, they will get another negative test.

Hailey, a beautiful young mother cat has also tested "strong positive" for feline leukemia. Only one kitten from her litter of four has survived. Unfortunately, since she is such a good mother, two orphan kittens were placed with her before she was tested. So, all three of these kittens will need to be tested in two months. We need a permanent home for Hailey and foster homes for the three kittens (until they are old enough to be tested).

"Plant a flower; grow a smile. I'd like you to meet Scruffy on our daily walk at the lake and just in time for tummy rubs as well. She's on the go so much it's hard to get great pictures but she's just the perfect addition to our family. She's a lovely little Yorkie-poo; a wonderful companion, great hiker, and a very nice little lap dog as well. The wonderful people at Farmington Pet Adoption Center had no trouble finding the right fur baby for us out of the many they have there. We were also very pleased to get a call from one of the board members checking up on Scruffy. This group truly cares about the animals that pass through their hands. Thanks to all who had a hand in Scruffy's rescue, care, and adoption.

Jill's Happy Tail

In July, we adopted Jill. She is 2 and was at the shelter for over
a year, poor little lady. She is our first family dog, and is AMAZING!!!!
she loves my kids, the first thing she did when we brought her home was jump
on the couch like " its about time I get a couch I deserve it!!" And she's
right, she is the perfect dog for our family. The people at the shelter were
wonderful, they totally knew her. They all seem to work very hard to keep
all there animals happy. We will definitely be adopting all of our animals
from now on.

Lost Dog, Noah (Great Pyrenees) spotted in Fredericktown

After 3 weeks with
virtually no leads on Noah, I have had 6 VERY strong leads in
Fredericktown MO of all places. He was seen 6 times 6 different people
between McDonalds and Madison County Road 504 on 4th of July between 7 am and 10:30 pm. They all said he was trying to come inside and they all said they
"scared him away" then later 2 people got the Daily Journal and saw
his photo and called. The other 4 we found by asking door to door.
They all described him to a tee. It's bittersweet... DO YOU KNOW
ANYBODY WHO COULD HELP?? I know no one from over there, we have been
driving back and forth putting up signs. Checked the animal hosp and the pound...

that from the bottom of my heart! I know it's "just a dog" to many of
you, and I understand that, but Noah is very special to me and our
whole family misses him so very much. All we can do is the best we can

Missing Cat!!

Emily is a 7 year old spayed female, all black, front feet declawed, weighing 13 lbs. Her voice is a squeak, very quiet. She was last seen late Sunday night, June 13th, in the Summerfield Subdivision, behind Lowe's and Auto Zone off Karsch Blvd in Farmington. If found please call Pat and John Moeser at (573)760-6296 or 366-1574.

If you know someone who lives in that area, ask around, please help find this sweet cat. Her owners miss her very much.

Hazel's Happy Tail

Kathy writes: "Our family adopted Hazel from the Pet Adoption Center on the first day of spring this year. In the previous year, we had lost our two long-time companion cats, Nick in April and Sophie in July, and were beginning to really miss having a cat around. After hearing of other happy adoptions from the center, we decided to go visit the cats “just to see.” We met Hazel on our first visit and it was love at first sight. We found it especially enchanting that the stripes on her left side formed a heart shape. She has been with us now for nearly a month and we could not be more satisfied with her. She has been a sweet friend, made up of just the right combination of dependence and independence, and has a special relationship with each one of us."

Luke and Lylah's Happy Tail

The Pulliam Family writes:"Hi. We are the proud owners of 2 beautiful kitties adopted from FPAC on January 6th 2009. We had decided to adopt a cat (or two) and looked up the local shelters in our area and came across FPAC. After speaking to the nice woman who worked with the shelter, my daughter and I visited to see if we could find our new additions. We did.....When we first walked into the room we were greeted by about 10 cats of all ages. We petted them all and got to know them a bit before Luke (one of our adoptees) came up to me. I was not giving him the attention he wanted so he climbed up my shirt and into my arms. After he got where he wanted to be, he gave me lots of affection and kisses. From then on, he was mine. Now Lylah (our other adopted kitty) is Luke's sister. She was a little stand-offish at first. But, my daughter was sitting in the floor and Lylah just went over to her and laid right in her lap. My daughter decided that was the one she wanted (as if she had any choice!). We filled out the paperwork and they were ours.The shelter and the people who work there are so nice. I called and emailed for information a few times before we made our visit. The staff gave me the best description of the animals they had, so I had a good feeling that I would find my new companions. Luke and Lylah were pretty frightened when we first got them home. After all, the shelter was the only home they had ever known. We did not really see them for about 4 days. They both hid behind the washer and dryer and only came out if no one was home or we were in bed. But after a few days they did come out. It took another day or so before they would let us pet them, but they came around. Now, 8 months later, they are both the biggest lap cats and cuddle bugs you have ever seen. They have adjusted well and have gotten so big! They have the complete run of the house and can do as they please..within reason. If I had to guess, I think they are happy here. I know that, in the future if we decide we want another pet, FPAC will be the place we go."

Strawberry's Happy Tail

Strawberry came to FPAC with a litter of kittens. She was a very good mommy, raising her babies and then fostering all kinds of abandoned kittens, caring for them just like her own. When the kittens were all big enough to be weaned it was time for Strawberry to find a home of her own. A wonderful family spotted her online and adopted her. We were all very happy for Strawberry even though we would miss her greatly. She is one special girl. Wendy (her new mommy) wrote:"I was searching for a ragdoll on petfinder.com and when I saw Strawberry's picture I fell in love instantly. I was looking for a playmate for my 1 1/2 year old seal point domestic shorthair that my husband found in a tree. I e-mailed Jeri, a volunteer for the Farmington Pet Adoption Center, on a Monday. She e-mailed back almost instantly to let me know that Strawberry was available still and how sweet and adorable she is. Strawberry arrived at her forever home on that Thursday. She can now stop dreaming little kitty dreams about a forever family! Thanks ladies at the Farmington Pet Adoption Center. I encourage anyone seeking a pet to adopt one of the many needy pets from here or your nearest shelter. I wish I could have brought more than just Strawberry home with me."Here are some pictures of Strawberry in her new home. Thank you Wendy and family for adopting this precious kitty!
